Keep Your Car Lasting as Long as Possible

Cars are a massive part of our lives, and they require considerable investment. Because they are so necessary to our daily lives, it’s crucial to ensure that they are in good shape. Read Greathouse Trial Law’s blog to learn how to keep your car lasting as long as possible.

What is normal wear and tear?

It is normal for your car to get some wear and tear as you drive. You may find some minor scratches or dents, or the upholstery may become worn. Fabric pieces may wear away or become loosened from their original place. Normal wear and tear typically refer to aesthetics.

However, it is crucial to take your car in for service every few months or as soon as you notice that parts of your car begin to deteriorate. Getting routine service done on your vehicle will extend its lifetime and keep you in the loop of its lifespan.

What can go wrong as cars age?

In general, cars begin to have problems after the 100,000-mile mark. It’s still important to note that modern vehicles are typically designed to drive about 200,000 miles before they pass their prime. Even though your car may hit 100,000 or 200,000 miles, it’s vital to take good care of your vehicle.

Once your car passes three, six, or nine years of age, a few different parts begin to deteriorate, particularly with regards to in-car electronics and power systems. Your car will continue to drive, but you may have to replace certain parts.

Statistically, in-car electronics like integrated navigation systems, infotainment centers, and Bluetooth connections may deteriorate within three years of driving. After six years, power equipment like keyless entry and security systems may fail, and after nine years, you may see problems with your suspension.

Keep Your Car in Good Shape

After three years of driving, you may need to check in with the dealership that sold you your car for problems that arise. They will likely help you with warranty issues, or they will be able to troubleshoot any in-car electronics that could hinder your experience.

The power equipment can be trickier to maintain, so it’s good to keep in contact with your mechanic or dealership. Keep an eye out for any new problems that arise, and check with the car manufacturer if you begin to see any issues.

After nine years, you may begin to see more problems with the car itself instead of its electronics or power systems. Maintaining your suspension and brakes will be key here, as this is necessary for the safety of your vehicle.

Get Routine Service

The importance of getting routine maintenance on your car cannot be overstated. You’ll need to check your oil and coolant levels, lights, and tire tread every month. This maintenance is vital for maintaining your car’s overall health and its long life.

Every three to six months, you should rotate your tires, wax your car, and check if your oil and filter need to be changed. This will protect your vehicle from routine wear and tear and keep your car in good shape.

Once a year, or seasonally, change your windshield wipers, check your battery performance, and ensure your coolant levels are where they need to be. Keeping an eye on all of these parts will keep your car at the level it should be to drive as long as possible.

Ensure Your Car Lasts

It is expected that your car will experience wear and tear as you drive it. Since cars are vital to our daily lives, they may suffer from parking lot dents or minor scratches. However, routine maintenance is key to ensuring that your vehicle lasts as long as possible.

You should also be on the lookout for any recalls that may apply to your vehicle. If you are injured due to failures of your car, make sure to contact an experienced personal injury attorney who can help you get the compensation you deserve.
